The Consulate General of India in Frankfurt set up the “India Business Forum (IBF), Frankfurt” in November 2013 with the broad aim of bringing together professionals, entrepreneurs and businessmen from India or persons of Indian origin in the German States of Hesse, North Rhine West phalia, Rhineland Palatinate and Saarland. The objectives of the IBF are as follows:

» Provide a platform for networking to Indian professionals, entrepreneurs and businessmen

» Enhance our understanding and economic engagement with Germany

» Offer business opportunities by circulating business enquiries which the Consulate receives from India and Germany

» Enlarge the outreach programme to connect with Indians and People of Indian origin in Germany

» Facilitate interaction with Chambers of Commerce in Germany and also provide a forum for interaction with business and political figures in Germany

» Take up issues affecting Indian professionals/companies in Germany

» Facilitate trade and investment between India and Germany

India and Germany have a strategic partnership since 2001, which sets out potential areas for intensifying bilateral cooperation, among others, in the business and energy sectors as well as in science, technology, agriculture and defense. Germany is India’s largest trading partner in the European Union and one of the leading sources of FDI. At present, there are over 1,700 German companies and 600 JVs in India. Germany has consistently been among India’s top ten global trade partners and was the largest trading partner for Europe with an investment of around €17 bn in 2016. It is against this background that a need was felt to create a platform to maximize the economic potential between the two countries.

India Business Forum activities:
